Door style is only one part of a cabinetry decision. Learn how storage, hardware, materials and installation details affect everyday use.

Kitchen cabinetry shapes how a room looks and how it works every day. A beautiful door finish matters, but so does being able to reach your cookware, put away groceries and open drawers without a collision.
When comparing cabinetry for a renovation, look beyond the showroom display. Ask how the proposed system will fit your home, your routines and your installation requirements.
Begin with an inventory of the items you use. Pots, baking trays, small appliances and recycling each need a suitable home. Deep drawers can make some items easier to access, while shelves may suit others.
Accessories should solve a specific problem. A pull-out near the cooking area may be useful for oils and spices, but its size and position should reflect what you actually store. Consider how you will clean it and whether the hardware supports the intended load.
Compare the cabinet box, doors, drawer construction and hardware together. Ask the supplier about available materials, interior finishes, adjustment, maintenance and warranty terms. Obtain written specifications rather than relying on a description such as premium or custom.
Review finish samples in your own lighting where possible. A colour that looks warm in a showroom may appear different beside your flooring or under your kitchen lights.
A cabinet layout needs space for fillers, finished ends, panels and transitions. These details affect the appearance and whether doors and drawers can open properly. Appliance clearances must be checked against the selected manufacturer's instructions.
Existing walls and floors may also need preparation. Ask who is responsible for site measurements, adjustments and installation. Confirm what the quoted package includes, especially decorative panels, trim and accessory installation.
If you are keeping existing cabinet boxes, assess their condition before investing in new fronts. Identify the cabinet system and confirm door and drawer-front dimensions, hinge compatibility and drilling positions. Older IKEA AKURUM and newer SEKTION systems should not be assumed interchangeable.
Factory drilling must match the verified hardware arrangement. A door replacement can refresh a kitchen, but it does not correct damaged boxes or a layout that no longer works.
